Laguna Nimez Reserve is an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA). It has a variety of 80 species of birds, both Patagonian residents and migratory, including waterfowl, landbirds, and shorebirds.

The vegetation is typical of Patagonian steppe, composed of fescue grasslands with alternating varieties of Berberis sp. and Senecio sp.. In the zones that are often covered by the flooding waters of Argentino Lake (Lago Argentino) there are reed beds (Schoenoplectus californicus).

Shamil Gimayev werd in 1954 geboren in Kasan (Rusland). Hij volgde een opleiding tot kunstleraar en studeerde schilderkunst. In 1983 verhuisde hij met zijn vrouw en zoon naar Oost-Berlijn. Zijn schilderij "Worlds People – Wir sind ein Volk" is het langste schilderij in de East Side Gallery en verbeeldt 40 jaar recente geschiedenis.

Shamil Gimayev was born in Kasan (Russia) in 1954. He trained as an art teacher and studied painting. In 1983 he and his wife and son moved to East Berlin. His painting “Worlds People – Wir sind ein Volk” is the longest painting in the East Side Gallery and portrays 40 years of recent history.
